PPIS officially launched our second Family Service Centre (FSC), PPIS Family Service Centre (East) on Thursday, 2 December 2010. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, then Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, who was the Guest-of-Honour, broke a block of ice (see above photo) to symbolize the opening of the centre. The ceremony also commemorated the renaming of PPIS’ first family service centre, PPIS Jurong FSC, to PPIS Family Service Centre (West).

PPIS FSC (East)’s main objective is to provide support for the needs of individuals and families living in the east. PPIS FSC (East) is the first of many more new Family Service Centres that the Ministry of Social and Family Development is building over the next several years. This new FSC does not only serve its immediate clients in Kembangan-Chai Chee and Joo Chiat areas, it also supplements the services of other FSCs in the eastern and north-eastern regions when the need for a Malay-speaking social worker arises.

With a team of qualified and accredited social workers and social service practitioners, FSC (East) handles information and referral services as well as casework and counselling services as part of its core programme. FSC (East)’s current niche programme is Talking Pot: a 10-session support group programme specially tailored for Malay/Muslim women. The programme aims to empower and help our Malay/Muslim women cope with the varied challenges in managing their multiple roles through enhancing their support networks. FSC (East)’s services and programmes are supported by Ministry of Social and Family Development, National Council of Social Service and Community Chest.

PPIS FSC (East) is open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. The public can also make enquiries and appointments by calling 6848 4661 or emailing fsceast@ppis.sg.
